Kitchen Installation

What to Expect From Us

  • There will generally be two team members assigned to your project. A third team member may join, depending on the work involved. Your Lead Craftsman is the on-site project manager. He’ll coordinate every aspect of the job, answer your questions, address concerns, and ask for your input when needed. If you have questions that he can’t answer, please don’t hesitate to call your Design Consultant or our main number: 614-781-1970.
  • We will need to shut off water and electricity to the house during the project (typically hours – not days).
  • If additional craftspeople are involved in your project (e.g. electricians, countertop fabricators, or drywallers ) we will schedule them to perform their work at the appropriate time. However, we may ask them to phone you directly to coordinate best with your schedule. Each job is different. If you have any questions, just ask us!
  • As your project nears completion, your Lead Craftsman will review the job with you, answer questions and note any “punch out” items. Our goal is to leave the final day of the project 100% complete and with you happy with your new kitchen! Full payment of the outstanding balance is expected at this time.
  • Payment should be given to the Lead Craftsman. Accepted forms of payment are: check (made to Simple Bath and Kitchen), cash, and credit card (Visa, MC, Discover).

Before Your Installation Day

  • Before we arrive, we suggest you remove any breakables from the project area and take pictures off the walls.
  • Clean out those cabinets! If we are installing new cabinets, then all items need to be removed from every existing cabinet. If we are only installing new countertops, please remove your items from your base cabinets – upper cabinets do not need to be cleared out. Countertops should be cleared off too.
  • Please remove all items from the microwave, stove, and all other appliances. (You do NOT need to remove items from the refrigerator-you will have access to it throughout the project)
  • If you have artwork or anything hanging on the wall(s) adjoining the kitchen, you may want to remove those items as well.
  • If possible, we would appreciate having a bit of room in your garage to store materials and for cutting walls and flooring. Thanks!

Cabinet Cleaning Tips

Wood Finishes

DUSTING: Dust cabinets frequently with a soft lint-free cloth. You can dampen the cloth slightly with water or a spray-type dust remover.
SPILLS: Clean spills immediately. Use a clean cloth and mild soap if necessary. Wipe dry with a clean soft cloth.
CLEANING: There are several products available for your wood cleaning needs. Use a clean cloth and mild soap if necessary. Wipe dry with a clean soft cloth. Never use detergents, soap pads, or steel wool on your cabinetry. These harsh abrasives will mar the wood finish. Additionally, we recommend that you avoid the use of paste wax and polishes that contain silicone; the wax build-up is difficult to remove and will leave a residue that attracts dust.
POLISHING: We recommend that you wash and polish cabinets once or twice each year. Use a light coat of quality furniture polish.

Glass Doors & Mirrors

You can use any commercial glass cleaner to clean the glass. Additionally, the glass can be cleaned while mounted on the door or can be removed for better access.
While cleaning mounted glass, be careful not to damage the finish of the door and cabinet parts while cleaning.
To remove the glass panel, carefully loosen the screws and lift the panel out. However, all glass is fragile so handle carefully.
Do not spray glass cleaner directly onto glass or cabinet parts. Glass cleaner seeping into areas behind the mullions may discolor the wood. Instead, spray a small amount of cleaner onto a lint-free cloth or paper towel, then wipe the glass.

UV Effects

Over time, UV light rays in natural sunlight may affect the appearance of your cabinets. Bertch applies UV inhibitors to all its wood cabinetry as part of the finishing process. The finish on your cabinetry will not change, but the wood may, depending on its natural characteristics, the amount and direction of light exposure, and the portion of the cabinet that receives light.

Recommended Granite & Quartz Cleaning Tips

Quartz

• Weiman Quartz & Stone
• Dawn Dishwashing Soap
• Stone Care International Granite & Stone Daily Cleaner

Granite

Things to Avoid

  1. Placing hot objects directly on quartz surfaces
  2. Cleaning using strong chemicals
  • Acid based cleaning products
  • Alkaline cleaning products
  • Nail polish remover
  • Oven or stainless steel cleaners
  • Bleach or bleach based cleaners
  1. Abrasive materials to clean
  2. Staining your quartz
  • Spices such as curry, turmeric, paprika, or chili powder can stain the surface. Most discoloration is on the surface and often wipes away with water and dish soap.
  • Tomato sauces can cause stubborn stains due to acidity and pigment. Clean spills as soon as possible.
  • Food coloring can temporarily discolor quartz. Clean spills immediately.

How to Treat Quartz Countertop Stains if It Happens

  • Dish soap and water. Because quartz is nonporous, many stains come out with warm water and dish soap applied with a sponge.
  • Baking soda. Mix baking soda and water into a paste and rub it into the stained area to help lift the discoloration.
  • Rubbing alcohol. Add a few drops to a clean rag or paper towel and gently rub the stain to help lift it.

Flooring Care & Maintenance

Happy Feet Flooring

• Sweep the floor regularly with a soft bristle broom to remove loose dirt. For everyday maintenance, a mop moistened/damp cloth with warm water will suffice.
• For a heavier cleaning, you can use a low pH (neutral) cleaner. (EX. ZEP Neutral PH Cleaner) • Spills should be cleaned up immediately.

Avoid:
• Soap-based detergents
• ALL Swiffers (Wet/Dry)
• Abrasive or mop and shine products
• Floor wax
• Ammonia or bleaches
• Vacuum cleaner with a rotating beater bar
• Steam mop
• Always read the cautionary information on all cleaners before use

Alterna Flooring

Floors Installed with Grout

After the grout joints have dried and hardened, here’s how to remove the slight haze of grout residue that remains:
1. Lightly apply a layer of properly diluted Armstrong Flooring Once ’n Done Resilient & Ceramic Floor Cleaner.
2. Use a white 3M pad to gently loosen the residue.
3. Prepare two buckets of clear, cool water.
4. Dampen a clean sponge in the water from the first bucket, then wipe up the residue. Rinse and repeat in the same bucket.
5. Use the clean water from the second bucket to do a final rinse and cleanup. 6. Buff dry with a soft cloth.

Floors Installed without Grout

Do not wash or scrub the new ALTERNA flooring for at least 5 days after the installation. This will prevent excess moisture and cleaning agents from interfering with the adhesive bond and hardening of the grout. After five days, floors can be damp mopped immediately, using Armstrong Flooring Once ’n Done Resilient & Ceramic Floor Cleaner.
